Samsung Is Partnering With Spotify For All Your Music Needs

Samsung has entered into a long-term partnership with Spotify.

The partnership will see Spotify integrated on all Samsung devices including the Galaxy Home, the Galaxy Watch and the new Galaxy Note 9. The integration is to create a seamless cross-device listening experience across all Samsung devices, including the ones announced today.

How the integration works is you should be able to start playing a song on your phone, then switch it to your watch, TV, or your Galaxy home speaker. Basically, you can listen to music anywhere you have Spotify synced to your Samsung device.

Spotify will also become part of the set-up experience on Samsung devices and the default music option for Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant.

For Spotify, this partnership signifies more visibility and increases their dominance in the music streaming industry. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek joined the Unpacked event to talk about the partnership, which can also be found in Spotify’s official press release.

“We believe that this significant long-term partnership will provide Samsung users across millions of devices with the best possible music streaming experience, and make discovering new music easier than ever – with even more opportunities to come,” Ek said.

Samsung’s partnership with Spotify comes at a time of increased competition from Apple Music, which launched its own HomePod speakers earlier this year. Apple has said that its streaming service has surpassed Spotify subscribers in select territories and is showing no signs of slowing down as Verizon Communications Inc. announced a deal on Wednesday to give a six-month free trial of Apple Music for its users.

However, Spotify shouldn’t be too frightened of the competition because the announcement has given them the biggest shares in two weeks.

As more people transition to music streaming services, Samsung and Spotify’s partnership makes it easier for consumers to choose which is best for their needs. “Our goal has always been to make music accessible to everyone by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it,” Ek added.
