For most people, summer means spending time outside at local events, whether those are concerts, art exhibitions, or festivals. The problem with having so many events is that you’re not sure of which ones are worth your time. Thankfully, Google has your back as the company has announced a significant update within its Search page that would allow users to get event information without searching for details on multiple websites.
In a post on Google Blog, the company explains that you can pull up an overview of event information by typing keywords like “events near me” or “free concert” into Google search bar. When you do that, you’ll see an expandable popup at the top of your search results, which you can browse through and see events you’re interested in.
Tapping on an event card will offer more detailed information about times, dates, and locations. A link to the official website for the event will also be provided for you if want more information that’s not shown on search. You will also be able to save your search results and buy tickets from the provider of your choice on Search without manually searching for them.
If you want your search to be more personalized, Google has also implemented a new “For You” tab within this “new events” feature. You’ll find personal event suggestions based on your search history and see trending and popular events near you as well.
Google says that this new feature will be rolling out in Search over the next few days, but don’t worry if you don’t see all the events that are happening in your area. Sites will have to format their content to make sure it shows up properly on the new feature. Google adds that they’ve “made it easy for sites to mark up their event listings,” by using a data structuring tool. New listings will be updated quickly for sites who follow the mark up guidelines.
So the next time you’re planning on going out with friends or family, be sure to search on Google to see if there are any events near you.
